Get gossiped? Let it be!

I was listening to the music in my mobile when I was on my way to work. I have songs in quite different genre stored and ready to play. And I let them play randomly. The experience was unique. It was like tasting different dishes. And I feel like warded off the real world around me.

And the player brought on the one sung by Liu Huan and Sara Brightman in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, which was held in last August. The name of the song was You and Me. Both of Liu and Sara had great and amazing voices, which could reach to the deepest of souls. The rhythm echoed in the Birds Nest, the national stadium built for the games.

I was enjoying the song and feeling the air surrounding the stadium back in August. And I thought to myself that this was the most grandiose and probably unforgettable ever.

And I then recalled that many unpleasant incidents happened, too, in celebration of the games and its opening. The March 14 unrest in Tibet, the scandals during the torch relay, and the touting of nation leaders boycotting the opening ceremony, the attack of China’s so called human rights record, etc. And my heart went blue for a while. And I thought to myself, this was really a hard beginning.

And then I realized that this could be seen as another celebration for the games and for the growing image of China.

I recollected that once a friend of mine complained to me of the gossips that his colleagues dumped on him. And when I asked why was that, he replied, it’s just that he seemed to be listened by the vice president of his company and that his promotion seemed imminent. I told him that he did not need to be panic. Those people were just envying him. Shit happens when you are changing and growing. Just take those things as they are and smile at them. And if do not treat them seriously and as a big thing, they’ll just disappear.

And same situation was true for China. With a decade of two-digit GDP growth and the huge forex store, the world was just shocked. And some people were not happy at this. They are envious and they are panic.

So they are using every excuse to attach China. They are blaming China being the biggest emitter of carbon dioxide. They are attacking on China’s human rights record, ignoring the fact that human right differs from nation to nation, and their own not-so-good records. They are shouting that it’s China who has lain off many employees in their country. They are afraid of China growing power in economy, politics, military and culture. And they can do little to stop China’s stride but to gossip. And sometimes gossip is not enough and they become more aggressive.

Fortunately, those who are gossiping are minority. Unfortunately, they are the people who possess the mouths of their nations.

I have to say that China has learned her own lessons dealing with those people and such things. And now China knows what to do: let it be. As long as the gossips or even more aggressive activities are limited and our rights not threatened, we can just let it be.

This is a more sophisticated and generous stance of a nation. And this stance, I must say, could convert those people who are standing in the middle line.

With this stance, we could be more concentrating and less bothered. And we could cope with our own tasks better.

So, here’s what I’m saying, get gossiped? Let it be!
